Loom - Imagine Dragons (Music Review)
The sixth album from Imagine Dragons, Loom is once again reminding me that I do in fact enjoy Imagine Dragons songs more than the general public. I think there’s a lot of bops in the discography. The only Imagine Dragon album that I love in completeness is Origins. I pick and chose songs from the other albums.
Tracklist
Wake Up
I am so glad that a song called Wake Up has a fun little beat and is up-tempo. It is exactly what vibes you’d expect from this title.
Nice to Meet You
A bit more slower than the previous track. I listened to this song as it was the second single. I did not like it as much as the first single (Eyes Closed).
Eyes Closed
The first single off the album. It’s a really dark song, especially when compared to Wake Up and Nice to Meet You. I can definitely picture this playing over a training montage or an opening chase scene. The NHL did also use this song in the pre show promos during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Take Me to the Beach
Was really surprised by the sax. I had expected that this song would sonically sound like Wake Up or Nice to Meet You because the beach is such a warm, happy, summer vibe. This is more sonically like Eyes Closed. It’s a break up song which is like the opposite to what I thought this song was going to be like.
In Your Corner
This is a more quieter, more laid back song. It’s a really heartfelt song. It’s good. But probably not my favourite.
Gods Don’t Pray
While overall, the instrumentals are fairly simple, I thought it was going to be way more simple from the opening notes. The beginning of the verse quickly changed my mind about that. I think the simple instrumentals really highlight the title in that simpler is best and gods are the best.
Don’t Forget Me
I’ve said several times that slow songs (which typically are ballads) aren’t really my favourite type of song. I really like the piano just before the bridge. And that’s about it. It’s a nice song.
Kid
I thought this would be another ballad like song about being a kid. However this song happens to be the audio manifestation of me calling myself by my last name when I need to get it together. A very pleasant surprise.
Fire in These Hills
Another sax? I did think this would be a more upbeat song like Eyes Closed. Instead it’s more like In Your Corner.
Eyes Closed (feat. J Balvin)
I liked the different bridge.
Final Thoughts
I think I have found another Imagine Dragons album that I will listen completely to. It feels weird. There are a couple of songs that I would be willing to skip if I wasn’t in the mood to listen to them. Gods Don’t Pray and Kid are probably the songs I liked the most out of the ones I hadn’t heard before. I hope that Fire in These Hills will grow on me.
