The Secret of Us - Gracie Abrams (Music Review)
heard the risk was drowning, and I've actually experienced that
The Secret of Us is Gracie Abrams’ second album. I’m confessing here I hadn’t really listen to her music before this post. I knew that Abrams had been an opening for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour’s first US leg. I had listened to her collaboration with Noah Kahan on his song Everywhere, Everything. I probably heard several snippets of various songs on TikTok, but I’ve never set out to listen to her music before now.
Tracklist
Felt Good About You
I like the tambourine. I did not like much else.
Risk
This song had popped up in a recommended songs playlist on Spotify, so I decided to take a risk (pun intended) and listen to it. And I quite enjoy it. It’s also fairly relevant to my life right now. I have had several times where I’ve deliberately replayed Risk.
Blowing Smoke
I already like Blowing Smoke more than Felt Good About You. A pretty decent song
I Love You, I’m Sorry
A fairly slow song, which are typically not my favourite. But I don’t hate this one. Again definitely better than Felt Good About You.
us. (feat. Taylor Swift)
Obviously, I listened to this one. I liked that the title of the album is referenced in the lyrics of this song. I like the song, but it’s kinda boring.
Let It Happen
Starts off slow, does get a bit more. It’s nice.
Tough Love
This song starts off with fast little beat and gives me hope that this song will be not end up being disappointing. And I was not proven wrong.
I Knew It, I Know You
It’s a song, I think I still like it more than Felt Good About You.
Gave You I Gave You I
Again, this is a song.
Normal Thing
I don’t know if I dislike this song more than Felt Good About You. Maybe?
Good Luck Charlie
I saw the title and thought ‘is this a reference to the hit Disney Channel show Good Luck Charlie?’. I wanted to hope that this song would be fast, upbeat and with more instrumentals, but as I am discovering, this is not that album.
Free Now
I did like the speed up half way through the song.
Close To You
I’m on TikTok. I have heard the snippet of this song that was originally never meant to be released. I like this song a fair bit. I can see why this song was originally going to be left off the album. It has a pretty different vibe.
Final Thoughts
I did not like this album. It is slow and quiet, which is the opposite to what I usually listen to. Close To You and Risk are the songs I liked the most on the album. The others were kinda meh. I won’t be adding this album to my collection. I also am not feeling encouraged to seek other Abrams’ other music.
