The Wisdom Saga - Jay Herrans-Rivera (Music Review)
There’s more EPIC!!!!!! The latest release in Epic The Musical, The Wisdom Saga contains five news songs and introduces some new characters.
Legendary
The first track off The Wisdom Saga introduces us to Telemachus, Odysseus’ son. Telemachus has grown up and wants live up to the stories of the father he doesn’t remember. This song is going viral on Tiktok and it’s probably my favourite song of the saga. I really relate to wanting to go on a great adventure.
Little Wolf
Telemachus comes across The Suitors. The Suitors don’t like Telemachus and the lead Suitor Aintinous gets into a fight with him. Athena steps in to help Telemachus.
We’ll Be Fine
After the fight with Antinous, Telemachus talks with Athena about why she stepped in to help him. Athena tells him that she used to have a friend whom she no longer talks to. Telemachus is unaware that she means his father.
Love in Paradise
Athena is encouraged by her conversation with Telemachus and goes to find Odysseus. She finds him on an island with the goddess Calypso. Throughout the song, we hear snippets from past songs representing different parts of Odysseus’ journal home but also his mother and two friends all of whom have died. This song strikes a balance between Calypso’s manipulation and also Odysseus’ guilt and want to leave.
God Games
Much like how The Underworld from The Underworld Saga features Herran-Rivera’s mother as Odysseus’ mother, Herran-Rivera’s father also lends his voice to a minor character - Hepheastus. This is a really cool nod as Herran-Rivera’s father built a sound recording studio for Herran-Rivera. The little motif where Warrior of the Mind transitions to Legendary to represent Athena’s connection to both Odysseus and Telemachus is just really sweet.
